It has been a big five weeks. The candidate enrolment for the City of Perth election is closing on Thursday 10th September at 4pm.

I am now nominated for the Position of Lord Mayor, along with five other confirmed candidates. Two of these candidates are also running for a Councillor position. I have been receiving feedback that being able to vote for me as Lord Mayor and also having the opportunity to vote for other Mayoral candidates for Councillor positions would be a good outcome for the City of Perth, providing a good mix of diversity and skills to the wider Council makeup.

As of writing this, there are only six candidates that have nominated for Council (including the two running for Mayor). There are eight Council positions available, which provides an opportunity for other people considering running for a Council position to nominate. My hope is that I will get the opportunity to work with a diverse and representative Council.

Diversity, accompanied by an inclusive culture, is proven to be a key component of good decision making and good governance. I would like to be part of a Council which is a mix of ages, backgrounds, heritage, residents, business owners and genders which will help better represent the interests of residents and businesses of Perth as we navigate through COVID-19 and set Perth up for the future.

This is a huge opportunity for a reset for the City. It will be tough, so we need passionate and driven people from across the community to make an impact. If you are thinking about running for Council, you have until Thursday at 4:00pm to nominate with the Returning Officer, Kelly Dansie. You need to contact Kelly on 0428 888 401 to make an appointment to nominate.
