Many years of leadership has taught me listening to your customers is the best way to get direct and frank feedback. In this case, Perth residents and businesses.

As spring has sprung, I’ve woken up everyday and thought, “What excellent weather for door knocking!”, and have since knocked on hundreds of doors across East Perth, Claisebrook and Northbridge. Crawley, Nedlands and West Perth are coming in the next week.

One question people have asked is: “Are you running for a Council position also?”

I am running for Lord Mayor and not a Council position because I have the skills and demonstrated experience to lead and support a truly independent, effectively functioning Council which does not make decisions through factions or voting blocks.

Having served on boards of a Community Bank, a University, Not for Profits, and leading a business from startup to growth, I understand what it takes to lead a team and a community to create change. Ensuring good governance while enabling the Councillors, CEO, administration and community to lead will be key to success.

I want to give myself and the community the absolute best chance at having a factionless Council, with a Mayor 100% focused on their role as Mayor, effectively leading a Council which is focused on serving the community.

With Spacecubed now poised for growth under the guidance of a strong leadership team, I can focus completely on the Mayoral role full-time. I have no media or unmanageable property investments to cause conflicts of interest or distract me. No ‘Council team’ representatives or factions.

As was evident from the recent Inquiry report, the previous Perth City Council became embroiled in personal factions which led to cultural challenges. This will take time to heal and place the City in a position where residents and businesses can once again trust and support the City of Perth Council and Administration.

I will work with all the elected Councillors and ensure we are all focused on the job, serving the residents, businesses and visitors of Perth. There is an excellent group of people running for Council (27 of them!), and with your help I will have the opportunity to work with a diverse, committed group of individuals.

It’s time for a truly independent, diverse Council, which is focused on the community. Perth deserves this. Let’s start a new chapter.

Let’s lead change, together.
